How it works

The IBAN checker verifies country format, length and the mod-97 checksum, and breaks the number into bank code, branch and account for supported countries. The VAT checker verifies format and check digits for EU and UK numbers and can query the EU VIES service live. The payee check then compares IBAN country, VAT country and supplier country, the most common sign of invoice fraud.

Is this IBAN checker free?

Yes. You can run 10 free checks per day with no sign-up. For more, use the API on RapidAPI (100 free calls a month).

How is an IBAN validated?

We check the country format and length and the ISO 13616 mod-97 checksum, then show the bank code, branch and account parts for supported countries.

Does it check VAT numbers against VIES?

Yes. EU VAT numbers are checked for format and checksum and, when you tick live lookup, against the European Commission's VIES service, which returns the registered name when available.

What does pay / review / hold mean?

It cross-checks the IBAN, VAT number and supplier country against each other. Hold means something looks wrong (for example a bank account in a different country from the supplier), review means check it by phone, pay means no red flags were found.
